The Online Writing Lab is two years young. It was born on 24th February 2020, during a literature festival at the Central Campus, inspired by a platform at Purdue University set up in 1994. In two years, it grew into the Communications Lab.

Christ's former Vice-Chancellor, Fr Thomas C Mathew, ideated the professional writing centre in 2015. In the next two years, from 2016 to 17, the Writing Lab sprung up and was shaped out by Fr Lijo Thomas (Director of CAPS, Fr Jiby Jose (Assistant Director of CAPS) and Mr Joseph Wincent (Mentor of the Lab). It was developed further by the Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Dr Tony Sam George, Mr Sabu A John, Ms Anamika Vishwanathan, Ms Rashmi Ramachandran, Ms Sharon Sunny and Mr Mitul Joseph

The Lab's logo was launched on the same day by distinguished dignitaries Ravinder Singh (writer), Usha KR (writer)  and Nidhi Chaphekar (writer and survivor of a terrorist attack) and Registrar of the University, Dr Anil Joseph Pinto. It used waste materials like CDs. This too was inspired by the 1990 use of the electronic medium of CDs. The symbol of environment was potent, spawning other eco-friendly e-certificates, digital quizzes and alternative online media.
